The diversity event I attended was Dia de Los Muertos which means Day of the Dead. Dia de Los Muertos is celebrated by Mexicans and Mexican Americans on November 1st and 2nd. The celebration is in memory of the loved ones they have lost. They all gather and pray for those whom have passed away. During these days house and gathering will have a decorated alter or platform that displays remembrances of those they lost. Then, individuals will place a flower on the table and share who the flower is for and why.
So for my event a group of us gathered in a very colorful and elegantly decorated room. We were explained the concepts and ways of Dia de Los Muertos. Later on we had performances of song and dance that are common and done during Dia de Los Muertos. It was very fun to learn about this event in more detail. I have always heard about it, but have never known the details and reasoning for it. Overall, I am glad I attend this event and that I know have a good understanding for Dia de Los Muertos.

Oh Twitter how so I did not like you! At this day and age I have no use for you at all. However, I do understand your concept. You help people get connected to one another and that I do understand. If I ever needed to contact an employee overseas, or anyone for that matter I could. When it comes to business I understand, but I am not to that age or time in which I need to do that. Many people use Twitter constantly around the world and love it. I hear on the news and the radio commentators and spokesman quoting people on Twitter, which I think is funny sometimes, but overall just ridiculous. I do not need or do I think other people need to know what other people are doing or saying on Twitter. This form of communication confuses me.
Overall, using Twitter did not float my boat. I constantly had to remind myself to do it. Mainly because I did not want to do it and I do not feel the need to tell and show others what I am doing or feeling. Twitter is very similar to Facebook in my opinion, except Twitter is only text oriented. I do have a Facebook account and use it often. However, I use it mainly for the purpose of keeping contact with people I know and meet. I am sure that the reason I dislike Twitter so much is because I do not use Facebook to post about myself. I rarely ever update my status. I did complete this assignment and learn there is a use for Twitter as I stated above. Now, I am very happy this assignment is over and that I can now continue my life and story, Twitter free!

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL 2008
How many of you have heard of the little town of Lenox, Iowa? I know as I introduce myself to people and tell them where I am from and most say, "never heard of it". Well, Lenox is my hometown and located in Southwest Iowa near the Missouri border. We have a very small community made up of 1,400 people. Though our community is small, we have great success in sports. I started both ways playing defensive end, tight end, and also doing the kicking and field goals. I would like to know tell you about my journey to a State Championship in Football.
As most people could agree success comes from many factors: dedication, communication, leadership, hard work, determination, and the will to win! Our 2008 football team had all those traits and more. We practiced hard every day, watched film 3-4 times a week, and did everything possible to get better. When I think of my football team, I think of my family, because I spent more time with them that football season than with my own family. We are loved to play the game of football and we were good! We blew through the regular season with only one loss, which I believe that loss made us a better team overall.
Now it was do or die time, the post season was here and it was time to make history. We made our way into the State Championship game without a problem. We started the State Championship game with authority; we took off and scored 3 consecutive touchdowns. Halftime came and we had a healthy lead. However, the second half the opposing team Armstrong-Ringstead didn't give up they fought back and took the lead going into the fourth quarter. Then, we scored taking the lead, but once again they scored. Once again, we scored and retook the lead showing that we would not back down. The hole game we fought and left it all on the field showing how real champions play. The game came down to a 45 yard field goal for the with under a minute left in the game. The score was 34-32 with us winning, but the field goal would but them ahead. They snapped the ball and my teammate tore through the line and blocked the kick!
I do not know where to begin to explain how it felt to win a State Championship. Its a day I will never forget and will cherish all my life. We came back to Lenox that night only to get met by 300-plus of our fans screaming and congratulating us. I felt like a true champion; the best I could possibly feel!

Silicone-gel Breast Implants
Have you ever thought about getting silicone-gel breast implants? Silicone-gel breast implants were first sold in the United States in the 1960s. At that time there were no regulations and no research done on the effects of silicone-gel breast implants. Then in 1976, the FDA was given authority to evaluate silicone-gel breast implants. Many researchers then started to express their concerns about the safety of silicone-gel breast implants.
The risks of getting silicone-gel breast implants eventually led to a huge decrease in the market during the 1980s. Research continued by the FDA and in 1988 they started to express their concerns. The FDA developed many ideas and plans to inform the general public. In the end, they decided to hand out brochures and make videos regarding silicone-gel breast implants to show their dangers and risks.
The brochures and videotapes were to be distributed to plastic surgeons throughout the United States. A diverse group was supposed to organize and create the videos and brochures. They were given the power to veto any decisions made during the video, which ended up being the downfall of the process. They could not agree on anything during the process and ended up never completing it. By 1990, almost one million women had silicone-gel breast implants.
In 1991, the House of Representatives pressured the FDA to require the manufactures of silicone-gel breast implants undergo safety studies. The FDA tested to see what effects they had on women; however, the studies were poorly done and the FDA could not come to a conclusion as to whether silicone-gel breast implants were safe. Then in 2004, the FDA announced that they did not approve of silicone-gel breast implants because the lack of long-term research.
Once again, the FDA changed their opinion and approved silicone-gel breast implants in 2008. However, the FDA did make a few exceptions. They announced that only two manufactures could produce silicone-gel breast implants: Allegan and Mentor. In addition, they stated that women under the age of 22 were not approved to get the implants. As of today, silicone-gel breast implants are available and highly demanded in today's society. Hopefully someday researchers will fully know that effects of the implants.
In conclusion, I believe all women should have the opportunity to get breast implants. It's a personnel choice and should not be controlled by the FDA. Although they could be dangerous, it cannot be any worse than drugs, alcohol, or smoking. I know if I were a woman I would get them!
